Walther Clinical Research Scholar Program

3/27/2009

The Walther Cancer Foundation Inc., in collaboration with the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, recognizes the importance of developing the next generation of translational clinical researchers. Consistent with that mission is developing high impact clinical research that promotes the strong collaboration of laboratory, clinical, and/or population-based research or cancer control.

The goal of both organizations is to enhance the depth and breadth of translational researchers dedicated to this mission. An important benchmark of success, identified by the cancer center's senior leaders, is achieving "comprehensive" status as designated by the National Cancer Institute.

To this end, we have established the Walther Clinical Research Scholar program. This program will provide support for junior translational clinical investigators at the IUSCC.  Up to two positions for up to three years will be funded.

Researcher will be selected based on the following criteria.

  1. Scientific quality and innovation
  2. Translational quality and clinical relevance
  3. Competitiveness for external peer-reviewed funding
  4. Extent and quality of proposed collaborations
  5. Feasibility of proposal (for example, availability of patients, appropriateness of budget, support from division/department)
  6. Potential for the development of new collaborations, projects, and funding applications

If you have any questions or need more info about the Walther Clinical Research Scholars, please contact Sherif Farag, associate director of clinical cancer research, at ssfarag@iupui.edu.
